Super-8 movies in shops
05-11-2007

By Dominique Le Guennec and François Juszezak
Multiplex theatres with wide audience have taken the place of small neighbourhood cinemas. Let’s re-invent a local, original, humorous and poetical cinema.

My storekeeper makes his cinema.
A touring and convivial cinema:
Image

In the first place, our team meets the shopkeepers of the street or the neighbourhood and shoots short super-8 films, lasting from 20 seconds to 1 minute, staging them working in their shop. Those films will then be edited in loops and projected in their respective shop. Some information about the shop’s history will be useful for our guides.

In the second place, on the day of the films presentation, our team will put in each shop a super-8 movie projector and its respective loop. The films will be projected on a support associated with the shop, on the same principle as our super-8 movie installation.

Examples:
At the bookshop, the film will be projected on an open book.
At the butcher’s, on scales or on the block.
In a bar, inside a barrel…

Spectators welcoming and tour.
The audience is invited to discover the films in the shops.

Once the tour is over, the spectator will end his or her walk by visiting our super-8 movie installation where he will find some of the items projected during his or her tour and discover our objects animated on screen. At the same time he or she will be invited to savour a glass of good wine or fruit juice.

The tour will last 2 hours without interruption with a group renewal every 20 minutes.

Of course, this procedure can vary according to places and types of event.

The first 2 outings « in shops »:
In Nanterre, during the “Parades” festival in 2004
In Rennes, during the festival « les tombées de la nuit » in 2005.
